During the course of 2016 we – Blanche and Alexis – tried to reduce our waste to as close to zero as possible. Every Sunday morning we weighed our non-recyclable waste, our recyclables and our food waste, and tried to work out how we could do better the following week. By the end of the year we had reached 13g of waste per person per week – basically nothing. But it was hard.

You can read all about our zero waste year on Makery, the website for DIYers, makers and Fablabs. Our six month summary is here and nine months here.

In 2017 we stopped obsessing about every gram and our waste output leapt to… 50g per person per week. Still not very much. We’d basically internalised zero-ish waste. And you can too.
